Andrew Gold is one of the most successful and enduring singer-songwriters of the past 25 years.
He first come to our attention as an integral member of Linda Ronstadt's band, before launching a very successful solo career. Hits like "Never Let Her Slip Away" (revived in the UK in '92 by Undercover), "Lonely Boy", and "Thank You For Being A Friend" (which gained a new lease of life as the theme to TV's 'The Golden Girls'). A stack of successful albums kept him in the public consciousness.
His collaboration with ace British songwriter and ex-10cc member, Graham Gouldman, led to considerable success and a smash hit for their band, Wax, with "Bridge To Your Heart".His other projects include the excellent Bryndle, with Karla Bonoff, Kenny Edwards and Wendy Waldman.
Since moving to Nashville, his songs have been covered by the likes of Wynonna, Kathy Mattea , Trisha Yearwood, and Blackhawk, and his "Spence Manor Suite" album for 2000, is just what those on the Music-Row conveyor belt, ought to be aspiring to. It is among the best albums of the year.
We recorded an extensive interview when he visited Ritz 1035 on 22nd August 2000.
I was saddened to hear of his untimely passing on 3rd June 2011
