Chip Taylor

pictured at Ritz 1035

Chip was my special guest on "Red Hot & Country" in November 1999, on Wave 105, and a couple of weeks later, we again ran into each at Ritz.

He has an amazing track record, having written some of the most enduring hits of the Sixties, including "Wild Thing", "Anyway That You Want Me", "I Can't Let Go", and "Angel Of the Morning". This latter song was revived by Shaggy (as "Angel") in 2001 and went to No.1.

Chip launched his "Black & Blue America" album in Chelsea in July 2001, performing a few songs alone and with P.P. Arnold. It was good to meet up with him again.

His real surname is Voight, and actor Jon is his brother. Jon's daughter is Angelina Jolie, who is married to Billy Bob Thornton. Chip took a few years out of the music business to become a professional gambler, and he became so successful at it that he was banned from some establishments in Las Vegas ! Thankfully, he's back making music, now.
