Rock and Roll - The Real Thing

I presented a weekly show Rock & Roll - The Real Thing on SuperGold for almost five years, many of which I co-presented it with Paul Burrell, and it gained great popularity. The music played was what the listener demanded. From mainstream rockers like Buddy Holly and Bill Haley to lesser known names like Ray Smith and Jackie Brenston.

There was no shortage of guests on the programme, including The Crickets, Little Richard, Charlie Gracie, Marty Wilde, Adam Faith, Cliff Richard, Ruth Brown, Bobby Vee and many more.

It was certainly a pleasure to welcome Jerry Allison to our studio. He had a plethora of Buddy Holly stories to tell us, and in fact, The Crickets made a couple of return visits to SuperGold.

The show ran until the closure of SuperGold. Just before it came to an end, John Peel caught the show, and mentioned it in his Radio Times column.
